It’s unfortunate that I found this solution after resetting my phone settings to default and losing all my contacts and messages 😦 but I’ll just share this quick fix so it can be avoided next time my phone or anyone’s device stops accepting google account username/password.
I hope this would be of help to others who are experiencing this problem 😉 Anyway, let’s proceed to the steps…
A. ON YOUR BROWSER (*Updated – Nov. 20, 2013)
- Go to your Google Account Settings
- For new Google interface, Click “Dashboard” on the left sidebar, log in if asked.
- Click “Edit” (beside Authorizing applications & sites);
For new Google interface, under “Account” section, click “Authorize Account Access” link - verify your password to access the edit page
- Add a name (ex: “Bob’s Android”, “Gmail on my iPhone”, “GoogleTalk”, “Outlook – home computer”, “Thunderbird”) on the field under Step 1 of 2: Generate new application-specific password
- Click “Generate Password” button
- Save the 16 digit password generated (will be used later).
B. ON YOUR Samsung GALAXY Tab 10.1
- Go to your phone’s settings
- > Accounts and sync
- > Add account
- > Select Google
- > Sign in using your username and the generated 16 digit password to login to your google account on your Android Phone or any device you want to use (space doesn’t matter).
*You should be able to gain access to your account after doing so 🙂
It worked for me 😉
Thanks, 1000 thanks… after 16 hours of trying to repair this problem and nearly break down you saved it.
br
Irena
you’re welcome 🙂 I’m glad this helped you 😉
I’m dark side of Irena… I’ll do it again to her
MUAHAHAHAHA
Thank you this saved me too, but only after I had reset as well. Luckily I’ve had less than 24 hours.
It’s really strange it doesn’t accept my normal password. Any idea why?
Hi Dave,
Google account users enrolled in 2-step verification need to periodically enter a special verification code, in addition to their username and password, to access Google Apps. When signing in from a web browser, they’re prompted to enter this code after entering your password. However, desktop and mobile applications aren’t configured to accept a verification code — there’s no field for entering it. In these cases, they need to sign in by entering another type of code — called an “application-specific password” — in place of their Google Account password. 😉
It’s a shame you don’t have a donate button! I’d most certainly donate to this brilliant blog! I suppose for now i’ll settle for book-marking and adding your RSS feed to my Google account. I look forward to new updates and will talk about this blog with my Facebook group. Chat soon! Miss samsung galaxy s2

glad it did 🙂
It didnt work for me. I already did a factory reset. Still not working. 😥
Maybe you should read again, Jean Paul… nothing on the article states that you should reset your password dear 🙂 I just said that it’s unfortunate that I found this solution AFTER RESETTING my phone settings to default and losing all my contacts and messages.
Thanks.
I read that during the tutorial, but who will remember a thing like that if the first time they have to do it is weeks later?
Wow wow wow.. This is just amazing!!!
I was struggling with this since 15 days now.. Thank u so so much!
U are amazing!
happy to help! 😉
🙂 🙂
Delete the aol account. When you go into email accounts to set aol up again, DO NOT use the aol icon, use OTHER, and enter your aol info….this worked for me…I reset the accounts and the phone and nothing. After reading and doing this, it started working right away. It has something to do with Verizon and aol, possibly other carriers…..Try it…. You have nothing to lose, but, your email to gain.
I am lost lol 🙂
Which part? did you follow the steps in chronological order? What phone are you using? Umm.. actually I am not sure if the new Google interface has an effect to this process. I’ll double check 😉
Okay, it updated the How-to list already 🙂 I hope this helps 😉
Whew! Have a problem, Google it! This got me enough info to get my problem solved. You cannot log out of an Android phone, at least not my Sumsung Galaxy II S, but somehow I found some Incoming settings and some Outgoing settings and did a code for each. Now I can’t find the settings page again, but at least it is fixed. I got to the “2-step” mode because I changed my password via the browser of my desktop at work.
Thanks for sharing AnnR ^_^
